Becoming a “Grass Roots” referee.
“Grass Roots” referees can officiate Recreation, Travel, Premier, State League, and youth leagues or tournaments.
To be certified as a “Grass Roots” referee, you must take an on-line class, which includes; on-line classes, quizzes, and a test. The student must pass the on-line quizzes and tests. Following completion of the on-line portion, the student must complete an in-person class.
After attaining “Grass Roots” certification, referees must re-certify every year. Recertification consists of an on-line class and exam. There is a fee for the annual recertification that is typically less than the cost of the novice certification.
It is up to the referees to contact assigners to get game assignments.
