OUTDOOR REC SOCCER
Cardinal Rec soccer welcomes kids ages 4 to 14 of all experience levels, whether it's their first time kicking a ball or they've been playing for years. Our program puts fun first, giving players opportunities to build soccer skills, make friends, challenge themselves and learn teamwork—all with the encouragement of positive, supportive volunteer coaches.
Open to all families in Mentor and surrounding communities.
Ages & Divisions
U6 through U10 Coed Divisions: U6 through U10 Coed play in our in-house league against other Cardinal teams.
U12 and U15 Coed Divisions: U12 and U15 Coed may plays in an inter-city league against nearby clubs or against other Cardinal teams.
U10 Girls and U12 Girls play in an inter-city league against nearby clubs.
We also offer our Tiny Titans program for 2 and 3 year-olds.

2026/2027 Age Groups
U15: August 1, 2011—July 31, 2014
U12: August 1, 2014—July 31, 2016
U10: August 1, 2016—July 31, 2018
U8: August 1, 2018—July 31, 2020
U6: August 1, 2020—July 31, 2022
Players may not play below their designated age division. Requests to play up one age division are subject to approval.
What You'll Need
- Shin guards
- Soccer cleats (not required for U6 but recommended)
- Soccer ball: (Size 3 for U6, Size 4 for U8 through U12, Size 5 for U13 and up)
- Water bottle
- Black shorts
Jersey and socks are included in the registration fee.
Season Dates
The fall season runs September through October, and the spring season runs from April through May.
Practices typically begin 1-2 weeks before the first game of each season.
Where We Play
Practices and in-house league games are held in Mentor.
Away games (inter-city league only) are played in Lake and Geauga counties within a 25-minute drive of Mentor.
Games & Practices
Teams will play 6-8 games each season, Fall and Spring. Games are typically help on Saturdays.
Teams practice once per week during each season. Practice days and times are determined by each team's coach and shared with families before the season begins. Occasionally coaches may have 2 practices per week.
Pricing
Current pricing can be found under the season details. Registration fee includes a jersey and socks.
Financial Assistance: Families who qualify for free or reduced-price school lunch are eligible for discounted or free registration, and we offer payment plans and assistance for any family that needs them.

Coach Requests
To keep placement fair, coach requests are honored in the order they are received, as space allows. Placement with a specific coach is not guaranteed.
To request a coach, please enter the coach's last name in the coach request box during registration.
Teammate requests
We are unable to accommodate teammate requests.
Please do not enter teammate requests in the coach request box.
Coaches
Cardinal is a volunteer-run organization. No experience is required, but we strive to have coaches that are positive and supportive. For young players, coaches are the difference between an “ok” experience and a great one! Coaches receive free registration.
All head and assistant coaches must complete these requirements before coaching:
- Background check
- SafeSport training
- Lindsay’s Law training
- Concussion training
There is no cost to coaches for these requirements. New coaches should allow approximately 3 hours to complete the training and paperwork, plus background-check processing time.
